The Last Dinner Party Return With "This Is The Killer Speaking," Announce 'From The Pyre' Album

The Last Dinner Party are back! The London quintet has returned with "This Is The Killer Speaking," the first track to be shared from their just-announced, much-anticipated second album From The Pyre, set to release October 17. The new track is a country-infused effort that still boasts the theatrical instrumentals and operatic vocals we've come to know and love from the band, finding that sweet spot between staying true to who they are and experimenting with different sonics.

Opening with a cinematic, western-inspired arrangement of deep bass, atmospheric percussion, and thrilling piano, lead singer Abigail Morris sings of a dark and doomed love, as well as a desire to reclaim power. She likens her experience to a hostage situation or a villain wandering back into town after she escapes and returns a savage, and you can't help but root for them. On the hook, the band burst with infectious energy, encouraging the listener to dance and sing along, "Ah ah ahh, Here comes the killer!"

The accompanying music video is a whimsical epic that follows a cowboy as they walk into town. Spying a wanted poster for a wild centaur, they set off on their search for the mythical creature, just as she struts into town and garners the attention of the townsfolk. Meanwhile, footage of the band giving a rowdy performance and starting a fight in the saloon intercuts the quest, adding to the surrealistic visuals in the most satisfying way.

The new single will feature on the band's upcoming sophomore album, which, according to them, will be filled with character-driven songs and will take on a darker, more raw, and earthy feel, looking out at a sublime landscape rather than being seated at an opulent table. "It also feels metatextual and cheeky in places, like a knowing look reflected back at ourselves," they share. "This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them. 'The Pyre’ itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion, and light.
