The Driver Era have finally released their latest single, “Don’t Walk Away,” after previewing it back in August during their sold-out show at the Wiltern and subsequently on Instagram. Sibling duo Rocky and Ross Lynch have spent the year enhancing their sound through new releases, such as singles “You Keep Me Up At Night” and “Get Off My Phone,” both of which use catchy hooks and sultry lyrics to convey the feeling of yearning, “Don’t Walk Away” is no exception. It is safe to say that The Driver Era are nothing less than obsessed, a theme that seems to define the duo as of late. 

The punchy lyrics detailing an unexpected relationship capture the thrill of a whirlwind romance, clearly something the duo welcomes with open arms. Not even the L-word is off-limits. “I think I love this girl / I think I love this moment” truly captures the impulsivity bred from the desire for permanence. Ross knows the moment could be fleeting and, therefore, begs in the chorus, “Don’t walk away / Can’t you stay?”

Additionally, “Don’t Walk Away” solidifies what we already knew—The Driver Era are no strangers to a synth-driven bassline. Returning to their roots of alt-pop, the duo showcases their expertise in this fool-proof formula that seems to always result in a flawless earworm. Much like “You Keep Me Up At Night,” “Don’t Walk Away” is undoubtedly bound to get into people’s heads, hearts, and playlists and stay there.

After wrapping up the European leg of the “X Girlfriend Tour” in October, The Driver Era will spend the first half of 2025 traveling the globe for the “Obsession Tour.” The duo is also set to release their fourth album, Obsession, in February, according to a link from a QR shown at their show in London last month.
