Carlie Hanson "Takes The L" On Vulnerable New Single | THE NOISE

Carlie Hanson pours out her heart on her latest single, "Take My L." The confessional-style single is musically fearless and resolute in its intimacy, as the young singer-songwriter lays her soul bare for the masses. Her pain is felt in the fragile and crystalline timber of her gorgeous voice, but the song is threaded with a note of hope.

The track, from the start, hits with so much honesty and heart, as acoustic guitar riffs lift up lyrics like, "Fell asleep, checked out/ Sunk into the couch like I never left/ And when morning comes, I don't care what's what/ It's the same again." She weaves a story of peace and pain amid a tapestry of sonics that compel you to stop what you're doing and listen.

On the hook, she comes to terms with where she is mentally and emotionally, singing, "Feel like I don't wanna save myself/ Feel like I just wanna take my L/ Feel like I could probably get some help/ But I never wanna save myself." There is an authenticity in Hanson's voice that carries every bit of that weight, but with quiet strength underneath that's impossible to ignore.

"I was definitely not in the best place mentally when I wrote this song," Hanson says. "I was struggling balancing work, personal shit, and being unhappy with living in L.A. I just didn't really know if I was on the right track, because things weren't going upward in my life. I felt like I was at a standstill and not accomplishing the goals that I had."

Going deeper, she explains that the "L" of the title is NOT what you might think at first glance, saying, "I want to reiterate this about the song: People who have heard the chorus snippet of 'Take My L,' think that the 'L' means 'life,' which is not what I meant when writing this. It's a common slang saying 'Take the L,' which means 'Take the loss' or 'Accept the defeat' kinda thing."

"Take My L" is the first release following Carlie's 2025 debut EP for Fearless Records, too late to cry. This seven-track collection is a testament to Carlie's growth, resilience, and the power of music to heal and inspire.
